Making
your toddler listen to you can be a huge task. Each child is different and
their temperaments differ. You can experiment and test various methods to
understand your child better and improve their listening skills. Below are some
tried and tested methods to improve listening skill of toddlers.
#1
Call using their names
Constantly
calling by their names makes it clear for them they need to be alert and listen
to what is said next. Calling their name will be their cue to be attentive and
thereby improving their listening skills.
#2
Kneel and get their eye-level
Squat
or kneel to come in direct eye-contact with your toddler. This helps make a
better connection between you and child. The child grasps what is said more
quicker than when said in a normal posture. Squatting down to their level and
communicating positively affects their listening skills.

Even
in the case for the elders, making an eye-contact means there is better level of
conversation between people. Same applies to children. Make direct eye contact
before you talk or give instructions. You can see that there is much more
improved listening skills in your child.
#4
Use gestures and expressions
Though
your child can reasonably understand your language, using gestures and expression
makes it much clearer and thereby increases the listening skills of the child.
For example you can furrow your eyebrow or shake your head to make your child
understand better.
#5
Try singing
Music
can be powerful when your toddler does not listen to you. If you try singing
what you want to say, there are chances for your toddler to pay more attention
and listen to what you are saying. This will gradually increase their listening
skills.
